As we begin the New Year, we are enthusiastic about making our resolutions. But once made, how can you keep your commitment to yourself?
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary the following is the definition of commitment:
- an agreement or pledge to do something in the future
- something pledged
- the state or an instance of being obligated or emotionally impelled (a commitment to a cause)
Making a long-term change or reaching a desired goal takes commitment…making the right choice sometimes on a daily or even hourly basis.
So once the novelty of the New Year or your new goal wears off, how do you stay motivated or committed to your goal?
Here are some suggestions for staying committed or to achieve long-term goals:
- Review your vision weekly.
- Renew your intention daily.
- Be gentle with yourself. It may take some time to implement permanent change.
- When old thoughts, words or actions start invading, use your affirmations or stop yourself by challenging your old thoughts that creep in.
- Set some limits so you can monitor things before they start piling up.
- Post words of inspiration.
- Set up a reward system.
