If You Think You Can…

July 1, 2008 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

“If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.”  ~ Henry Ford (attributed)

Is it really all about attitude?

Having a positive attitude allows you to be accepting of the possibilities instead the problems that life may bring.

Think of the last time you tried to learn something new, change a habit or even anticipate an expected outcome/experience. Did what you think about that situation come true for you? For example did your conversation with your family member end up in a yelling match? What were you thinking just before the exchange? Is that what you pictured?

Open yourself up to new possibilities in your relationships and lifestyle and see what happens. Go ahead… before your next interaction or implementation think about the outcome you desire and then see what happens.

Why not try it? If you think you can…

Habitual Thinking

June 28, 2008 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

“Habits of thinking need not be forever. One of the most significant findings in psychology in the last twenty years is that individuals can choose the way they think.” states Martin E.P. Seligman, Ph.D., author of Learned Optimisum: how to change your mind and your life (Vintage Books 2006).

The author goes on to say “What is crucial is what you think when you fail, using the power of “non-negative thinking”. Changing the destructive things you say to yourself when you experience the setbacks that life deals all of us is the central skill of optimism.”

So is your glass 1/2 full or 1/2 empty? Is your self-talk negative or positive?

You can make a conscious choice to change your internal dialogue this minute. Think of one of your biggest negative beliefs about yourself and turn it around with a positive affirmation. Practice and repeat often. While at first these statements may feel uncomfortable and untrue. If you use affirmations consistently they become beliefs and will produce results. For example instead of the message “I am not creative” you can change that to “I feel good expressing myself in creative ways”.

What negative belief have you chosen to change?
