Take the Leap…Be the First

November 4, 2008 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

I had the pleasure of attending the annual American Dietetic Association Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo (FNCE) in Chicago last week. There were over 10,000 dietetic professionals gathered for professional enrichment. The first male president of the association in its 91 year history presided over the conference. In a profession that is dominated by females, this is truly historic. Today will also be another historic day regardless of your political affiliation…either the election of our first African-American president or our first female vice-president.

At the conference I attended the keynote address which highlighted the “rags to riches” story of Christopher Gardner. You may know of his story from the 2006 award-winning movie entitled “The Pursuit of Happyness”.  His story of overcoming obstacles, persevering and breaking cycles was inspiring as was his message…don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t.

There are endless possibilities in life if you believe and act upon those beliefs. So take this day to reaffirm your goals and aspirations…and leap. It is a wonderful time for possibilities…in fact there wouldn’t be firsts if people didn’t take that first leap of faith. So don’t let anyone (including yourself) tell you that you can’t.

The jump is so frightening between where I am and where I want to be…because of all I may become I will close my eyes and leap!~Mary Anne Radmacher
