The Journey Into Clutter Busting: Using Professional Services to De-clutter

December 3, 2011 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Sometimes when you are de-cluttering you may need to call in the professionals. Once you have sorted and purge your papers, instead of spending hours at the shredder there are services that will come to your home or business to shred your documents. Or you can take them to a local company that provides that service.

If you are picking a professional shredding company:
• Determine how much shredding you have and the cost and whether you want the company to come to you or if you want to drop the documents off.
• Decide if it is important for you to witness document destruction or not.
• Ask for references and visit their website for testimonials.
• Schedule time to take your papers or to have the truck come to you.
• Breathe a sigh of relief as more papers leave your home. [Read more…] about The Journey Into Clutter Busting: Using Professional Services to De-clutter

The Journey Into Clutter Busting: November Basement Update

November 26, 2011 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

I estimated that the basement would probably take about six months when I developed my project plan. Here we are on month eight with so much more to do.

With the holiday fast approaching, I began this weekend with some basement time. I started by planning how I wanted to approach pulling my decorations out for this year and how I was going to manage the process. In addition, it was a good time to spend on the boxes “in the way” of that process.

The basement project like life has gone through a lot of shifting over the last eight months. Yes, progress has been made. Yes, sometimes it doesn’t look it or feel like it. But I keep reminding myself that this is a journey and not just a destination.

Do I wish that I had accomplished more in less time. Sure. But I am also confident that the end result will be great and long-lasting.
So back into the basement I go today to clear out more clutter and organize what remains.

p.s. Because I implemented my holiday plan I actually have time to spend in the basement this weekend since all my holiday shopping is done and most of the gift wrapping.

The Journey Into Clutter Busting: Giving Thanks

November 19, 2011 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude.  ~E.P. Powell

An attitude of gratitude is important not only on Thanksgiving Day, but all year round.

As Thanksgiving Day approaches this year give thanks for whom and what you have…feel it in your heart and resolve to have an attitude of gratitude all year long.

And choose to really feel the gratitude in your heart versus going through the motions. I know that has made a difference for me in my daily gratitudes.

Remember that like attracts like. I am grateful for all my clients and for all the people in my life. Thank you.

The Journey Into Clutter Busting: Make Ahead Meals

November 12, 2011 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Developing holiday menus, selecting baking and cooking recipes and making food ahead of time is all part of the stress-free holiday plan. This means not only planning for the actually holiday meals but also thinking ahead to days leading up to the holidays when activities start to happen and life goes into overdrive.

So pull out your cookbooks, favorite recipes or search for some new ones. Schedule cooking days and store make ahead meals and dishes in the freezer with heating instructions included.

Planning now will make the holiday time enjoyable and stress-free. Enjoy!

It is my pleasure to serve as a resource for the Health Alliance Plan Wise Woman magazine. I share tips for organizing articles. Some of my tips were used in the Fall 2011 edition of the magazine along with other experts. The article entitled “Trains, Planes and Automobiles” can be found on page 7.

I hope you find the tips helpful as you beginning preparing for holiday travels.
