Tackle Your To-do List

Is there a better way to tackle your to-do list? Is there a secret for reducing the sense of overwhelm that list causes?

The answer is yes. One way to reduce the stress and anxiety is to simply locate the next item of your list and give it a due date and then schedule progress check-ins with yourself. You can also set up an incentive for achieving your task on time such as fresh flowers or a new read.

Having a goal and regular feed can increase both your attention and motivation. A study by University of Texas at Arlington concluded that mini-goals and check-ins will help you stay on track.

So, tackle that next item that you have been stuck on with a clear goal, timeline and schedule.

What Do You Believe?

Our beliefs about our stuff and things can cause us to hold on to clutter or hoard. And sometimes self-rejecting beliefs or belittling beliefs that we got when we were children, can contribute to our clutter,

Beliefs that you developed as a child or even in adulthood kept you safe or helped you make sense of confusing situations.

For example, you may have felt unseen or unheard and decided this was because of something you did or because of a character trait, but that may not have been true then or may not be true now. Understanding where some of these feelings of insignificance took root can help you to make some changes in your beliefs and/or values.

We may keep stuff because it makes us feel important or because it gives us a sense of control in our lives.

By digging into the thoughts that are limiting beliefs you can shift your perceptions around your own ability to impact your life. And you may discover wonderful things about yourself. When you gain awareness, you may become amazed at how much your life can change.

Holiday Strategy 2021…Are You Ready to Start?

Last week I proposed that you start planning for the holidays and start your timeline beginning November 1.

Did you consider it? Did you make a plan or create your timeline? Would you like to obtain my Eight Week Holiday Survival Checklist?

Yes, we are eight weeks away from Christmas Day. Yes, we haven’t even celebrated Thanksgiving yet. Yet, take charge of the holidays this year and make plans for joy by starting now. Try it. With all the other things going on in your life, this strategy may help reduce the overwhelmed feeling and help you thrive during this time of year.

Holiday Countdown 2021

Did I write “Holiday” in an October post? I did. Yes, I know that Christmas is over eight weeks away.

That is why I am mentioning it now. Much of our holiday stress is a result of not having a strategy or plan. When you don’t even think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving, you can’t help being stressed because that leaves only four or five weeks depending on the year. And, as with last year, add the circumstance of planning celebrations or holidays to a pandemic and that makes it a bit more challenging.

So I would encourage you, especially this year, to decide what is important for celebrating the upcoming 2021 Holiday and then create a strategy to achieve that.

As I do every year, and it is worth repeating, take the stress out of the holidays and begin your holiday countdown November 1.

Start, Stop, Continue

I do my best to use the beginning of a new month to review the previous one and plan for this new one.

As part of that process, I reflect on what I should start doing, what I should stop doing and what I should continue doing.

Part of this month’s reflection shed light on what I should do more of (start) regarding my mission of “I nourish my relationships with family and friends”. I realized that I haven’t been totally present as I have interacted with family and friends recently. That means I need to not be thinking about what didn’t get done yet and/or what I still need to do. So with this awareness, the plan in the next month is to really set the intention of being present for each personal interaction.

What should you start, stop, or continue for the month of October and beyond?
