Clutter Busting: JUST STOP! More Tips

July 22, 2017 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Here are some more tips on how to stop clutter even before it comes into your home. Shop smarter by making sure you purchase the right item and only that.

  • Don’t shop for entertainment.
  • Do research large or major purchases first.
  • Don’t forget to bring important information with you when shopping such as sizes, colors, etc.
  • Do shop from a list so you stay focused.
  • Don’t buy one in every color.
  • Don’t buy it just because it is on sale.
  • Don’t buy super-sized items if you don’t have a place to store it or if you don’t use large quantities in a short period of time.
  • Don’t buy it just because there is a free gift with purchase.
  • Don’t be lured to buy the complete set.
  • Don’t buy it just because your friend says they use or love something without first deciding if you will use it.

Being aware of how and what you buy can help you change your shopping habits and lead to bringing fewer items into the home through impulsive purchases. And avoids adding to the clutter. Which of these tips will you use?

Cluter Busting: JUST STOP! The Challenge

July 15, 2017 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Did you accept my challenge last week of not bringing anything new into the home? What time perioid did you pick? I picked a week.

I am pleased to report that I did not add anything to my home that wasn’t consumable this past week. I didn’t realize though how many times my own purchases could be impulsive. Just asking myself the simple question of do I or we need this, was enough many times to stop the purchase.

Side benefits of fewer purchases included having fewer things to put away after a trip to the store and no need for another trip to the store to return something that I didn’t take the time to try on.

So even though I am hyper aware of clutter and have the goal of helping my clients declutter, I do this because I too have dealt with the clutter and too much stuff in my life. So I am grateful for the lessons I learn and share.

Let me know how you did with your challenge.

Clutter Busting: JUST STOP!

July 8, 2017 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Clutter can be overwhelming. Many times we look at our clutter and don’t know where to even start decluttering. And the more clutter or physical stuff you have to more overwhelming it can be.

Here is a place to start that might just be a little less overwhelming as a first step… work on not bringing anymore stuff or clutter into your home.

Let’s just stop clutter before it gets into your home. So before you bring something new into your home, JUST STOP! Take a moment, pause, take a deep breath and ask yourself:

  • What am I willing to get rid of to make room for it?
  • Where will I put it?
  • Do I have something that does the same thing?
  • Do I really love this?
  • Will I really use it?

Being mindful prior to bringing something new into your home can be a first step of decluttering… by not adding to the clutter already there.

So I challenge you to see if you can do this for a day, a week or a month. You decide how long you want to do this challenge. For me, I am going to do this for a week.

Not adding more to your clutter can be the first step on the journey of clutter busting. Changing your mindset about acquiring stuff and implementing that practice can build a new process for conquering chaos.

Challenge accepted?

Clutter Busting: Body Clutter

June 3, 2017 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Have you ever thought of your excess weight as clutter? Well it is. The most personal type…body clutter.

Emotions, unhealthy habits, lack of sleep, low self-esteem as a few of the things that can weigh us down and help add excess pounds.

If your goal is to be at a healthy weight, start today. This moment. Take small steps.

One of my favorite books about this topic is Body Clutter: love your body, love yourself” (Fireside 2006) by Marla Cilley (The FlyLady) and Leanne Ely (The Dinner Diva). The authors focus on taking baby steps.

Here are some thoughts to start you on a journey achieving a healthy weight:

  • Forgive yourself.
  • Attitude is everything.
  • Start moving.
  • Eat mindfully.
  • Get enough sleep.
  • Declutter your environment.
  • Daily practices are the cornerstone for success.
  • You have a choice.
  • Don’t eat for the moment, eat for the future.

If your are feeling cluttered with excess weight.  Take the first step now. Contact me for a free 30-minute intro coaching session. Together we can clear clutter from your mind, body and space to conquer chaos and create harmony.
