Clear Your Space, Clear Your Mind

September 3, 2022 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

As previously mentioned, your stuff can weigh you down. It can create chaos and keep you stuck.

As I have collaborated with clients, I have used a technique of identifying a clutter hot spot and tackling that one area to help them become unstuck in the decluttering process.

A hot spot is usually a small space like a bedside table or a part of a counter that attracts clutter or that drives you nuts when you look at it.

What might happen if today you identified your clutter hot spot and just tackled it? You might be amazed.

I was talking with a writer and friend who identified that they were stuck and were having trouble writing. We identified that the hot spot in the home was the space at the side of the bed. When they started to toss trash and then continued by removing items that belonged in other rooms as well as excess books or “to do” projects located there, this person was able to start writing the next day. Coincidence? Maybe. But I like to think that by clearing clutter from that hot spot space, the person conquered chaos and opened a creative opportunity.

What space or hot spot are you going to tackle to help you get unstuck?

Weight and Clutter

August 20, 2022 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Could clutter really make us overweight? Multiple studies have found a link between clutter and poor eating choices.

Disorganized and messy environments led participants in one study to eat more snacks, eating twice as many cookies than participants in an organized kitchen environment yet one’s mindset in that environment can either trigger or buffer against that vulnerability. Other research has shown that people with hoarding severity were associated with increase body mass index (BMI) and that those with extremely clutter homes are 77% more likely to be overweight. Additionally, a tidy space in one analysis was associated with healthier food choices.

An Indiana University study that examined the relationship between physical activity and a range of variables involving urban residents’ homes and neighborhoods found that the inside of study subjects’ homes had more to do with higher physical activity levels than the other environment elements considered.

Now, not everyone who has clutter is overweight. Yet, most people who are overweight seem to have clutter. The connection between clutter and weight gain is that body fat and clutter both act as a protective layer to help people to feel less emotionally vulnerable. Conversely, the stagnant energy that accumulates around both causes a feeling of being stuck that can be very frustrating and restrictive [Read more…] about Weight and Clutter

Start Anew

June 11, 2022 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

You can use to choose to start new anytime. In any moment we can decide that a difficult day or a challenging relationship or decision that’s gotten off on the wrong foot can be started again. It is a mental shift that allows us to clean the slate and approach anything with fresh eyes, and we can make that choice at any time.

Starting new is most powerful when we focus our attention to what we are choosing to create. Giving all our attention to the unwanted aspects of our lives allows what we resist to persist. We need to remember to leave enough room in the process of new beginnings to be kind to ourselves because it takes time to become accustomed to anything new, no matter how much we like it. There is no need to get down on ourselves if we don’t reach our new goals instantly. Instead, we should acknowledge the forward motion and choose to reset and start again (and again), knowing that with each choice we learn, grow, and move forward.

Life coaching can assist with a restart. Contact me for more information.

Conquering Chaos with Life Coaching

June 4, 2022 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Too many things or possessions can create chaos and so can the unplanned life. Chaos comes in many forms, but unpredictability, feelings of being overwhelmed and confusion are the key factors in all its variables.

Are you experiencing chaos?

  • Do you ever feel as though one more problem or item on your “to do” list is going to send you over the edge?
  • Have you ever had so many things going on in your head at once you can’t decide where to begin so you do nothing?
  • Are you gaining weight, losing sleep, feeling anxious about life?
  • Is it impossible to begin working without spending several minutes clearing a space, hunting for the necessary tools, or just moving to another space because of the clutter?
  • Are you letting stress and disorganization rule?

Chaos can be conquered by setting goals AND by determining each day to make the choice to take the small, achievable steps. Working together with a life coach, you will focus on creating the success you want, clearing your mind, body, and space to propel yourself forward.
