Confessions from the Clutter Busting Coach

February 12, 2011 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

The reason that I became so interested in clutter busting is that I have had to do a fair share of de-cluttering in my life.

I have the reputation at my place of employment of being the “go to” person if someone needs historical data. At home I am the keeper of family memories and traditions. And I have personally organized, down-sized and moved at least three of my elder family member’s homes.

I recall looking into membership and a career track of professional organizing while I was also training to be a life coach. At a local chapter meeting, folks were giving their 30-second elevators speeches which included statements like: “everyone says I am so organized that I should help others” or “organizing comes easy to me” or “I can’t stand for one thing to be out of place”. That’s just not me. The reason I am attracted to helping others become clutter-free is that I have had to learn to do so myself through the years of acquiring my families memories and stuff and because I too struggle with clutter. I want to help others by sharing the lessons that I have learned and keep learning. That’s why I chose to focus my life coaching practice around getting rid of clutter…whether it is from your mind, body or space. I believe there is a book out there with this title already and it is true…when you move your stuff you change your life.

Now here is the confession.

Somehow in the last couple of years clutter has returned to rule my home. Yes…me the clutter busting coach. No excuses, but somewhere between a 50+ hour work week, the illness and death of my father-in-law and the resultant need to clean and sell his home of 20 years and my desire (no passion) for launching my coaching practice clutter again reins in my home.

And I won’t take it anymore! I shared my longing for balance in my previous post and this admission (confession) is the start of my journey to de-clutter my life.

So the journey begins today with this single, simple step of making a commitment to find balance and de-clutter my mind, body and space. I am also committing to share my journey…the ups and downs, the lessons learned and success with you via my posts. I am even committing to share before and after photos.

Through it all I hope to motivate me and my readers to find balance…clear clutter from mind, body and space to conquer chaos and create harmony. Join me in the journey…
