Mindfulness in the Chaos

May 16, 2020 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

When dealing with stressful times, you can easily feel overwhelmed or worried.

Here are some practices that you can use during chaotic times.

  • Use deep breathing to ground yourself and settle.
  • Visualize a STOP sign to pull yourself out of autopilot mode, to refocus and determine the best way to proceed.
  • Take a mini break. Stepping away from a situation, even for five minutes, can bring clarity and reduce tension.

Note that these are not fixes, but they are an acknowledgement that when we become out of balance and caught up in stress, there is some value to having a few tools in our toolbelt that we can use to settle ourselves in any given moment.

Take care. Stay well.

Connecting Check In #7

August 4, 2018 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Connecting is all about being present, mindful and curious. My intention for 2018 to connect has been insightful. And I am grateful for all that I am learning through this process. It has reinforced the idea of life as a journey and it being about blending not balance.

And it continues to come down to daily choices. What is your choice for today?

If not you who?

February 25, 2017 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

When you are given instructions on the airplane, they tell you to put the oxygen mask on yourself first. Right?

Then why is it so hard for us to put ourselves first on our to do list, to make our goals a priority and to spend time just being who we are?

Americans are not particularly good at safeguarding their overall health:

  • Mental Health- One in four Americans has a mental health disorder. Many of these disorders go untreated. [Read more…] about If not you who?

A Balanced Life

January 11, 2014 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

What’s in a word? A lot. For those that may follow my posts you know that I have given up making resolutions and have instead chosen a word or theme for the year.

This year’s word is balance. So, of course, I had to look up the definition. According to www.dictionary.com:

bal·ance

noun

1. a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight, amount, etc.

2. something used to produce equilibrium; counterpoise.

3. mental steadiness or emotional stability; habit of calm behavior, judgment, etc.

4. a state of bodily equilibrium: He lost his balance and fell down the stairs.

5. an instrument for determining weight, typically by the equilibrium of a bar with a fulcrum at the center, from each end of which is suspended a scale or pan, one holding an object of known weight, and the other holding the object to be weighed.

For me, balance in 2014 means calmness and steadiness. I am aiming for having various aspects of my life feel more equal. First focus is on play time…leisure and recreational activities. What will that be?

The Journey Into Clutter Busting: Remember…Balance

February 25, 2012 by clutterbusting 1 Comment

It always amazes me how things can get out of balance. When we focus our energy on one project…like my basement journey…you look up and realize that something else has become out of balance. Actually, it is what life is all about…finding balance.

The other day I looked up from my basement project and realized that my kitchen sink counter was out of control. My intention is to go to bed each night with a shiny and clean sink. I thought I had got that clutter zone (one of my hot spots) under control with my daily routine long ago. All of a sudden it wasn’t happening.

The morale of the story is routines. Projects are fine for clearing clutter but you also have to maintain as you go along. So I re-focused for balance and tackled the counter top and now I on the way to the basement to do some project time.
