Clear Clutter from Your Mind

October 31, 2020 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

One more post this month on mindset and positive thinking…

Earlier this month I posted about using affirmations to make positive changes and affirmations that work. Have you tried affirmations? If so, how is that helping you?

If you are experiencing some challenges with using your affirmations, you may need to clear the clutter from your mind.

Our minds or thoughts can get cluttered with old beliefs and negative self-talk. This causes us to get in our own way.

Working with a life coach can help you reframe your thinking and advocate to support the life you want.

Contact me for a demonstration session on how life coaching can support you.

Maybe you need another door

September 12, 2020 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Do you keep knocking on the same door, but it does not open? Do you keep attempting the same goals? Do you keep trying to fix the same relationship? Do you continually attempt to get that promotion? And nothing.

“Maybe it’s not your door.” My search did not reveal an author for this quote. But even so it a tiny but mighty.

How many times do we get stuck, knocking on the same door repeatedly? We hope that the door will swing open somehow if we just work hard enough at it. And once it does open everything with miraculously change for you.

If you keep beating on the door, you just wear yourself out and get nowhere. If you cannot find the key, you create anxiety trying to find the correct one. Maybe it might be time to realize that door was meant to stay closed.

It you find yourself stuck in front of that same door constantly, try finding a new door that is truly meant for you to go through.

You deserve more. Find a new door that help you get unstuck and that opens to the possibilities that were meant for you, your life.

Mindfulness in the Chaos

May 16, 2020 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

When dealing with stressful times, you can easily feel overwhelmed or worried.

Here are some practices that you can use during chaotic times.

  • Use deep breathing to ground yourself and settle.
  • Visualize a STOP sign to pull yourself out of autopilot mode, to refocus and determine the best way to proceed.
  • Take a mini break. Stepping away from a situation, even for five minutes, can bring clarity and reduce tension.

Note that these are not fixes, but they are an acknowledgement that when we become out of balance and caught up in stress, there is some value to having a few tools in our toolbelt that we can use to settle ourselves in any given moment.

Take care. Stay well.

Back to Basics: 40 Day Purge

April 25, 2020 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

While the Lenten season has passed, I would like to propose the concept of decluttering one item everyday for 40 days as a process for decluttering.

If you are still struggling to get started or were able to get rid of the trash and recyclables yet still can’t make decisions about the remaining stuff, this concept may work for you.

What if you committed to purge one item each day for the next 40 days or even the next 30 days? What impact would that make in your life? Your home? Your office?

By making this commitment it set up to make a choice each day…one step each day to getting rid of clutter and potentially more.

My experience from my 40- or 30-day challenges to myself, is that I ended up letting go of more than 30 or 40 items. Most times it is multiple items a day or even bags (small and large depending on the area).

So, are you ready to commit to a 40-day purge?

Back to Basics: Decluttering the Obvious

April 18, 2020 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Last week, I focused on getting started in an area by getting rid of trash, recyclables and things that belong somewhere else.

I define those things from last week as starting with the obvious. Yet, I understand that what may be obvious to me, may not be to others. I also acknowledge that there are individuals that struggle with letting go of items and what seems like easy decisions to one may cause angst for another. And I am not trying to minimize that anxiety.

My goal today is to provide you with some criteria to potentially make the decision process easier. And know that as you continue the journey and make more decisions about getting rid of clutter it does get easier.

Contact me if you would like support in your clutter busting journey. Or seek help of a professional organizer. And, if needed, seek the professional assistance of a psychologist or psychiatrist.
