Clutter Busting: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

April 8, 2017 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Upcycled or reused shopping bag.

When we think of clutter busting we think of getting rid of items we already have. But it can also be about reducing what we bring into the house, reusing what we have already as well as recycling items whether that be via the recycling center or to gift it to someone else.

In fact, many of us are used to recycling. Yet the first two items are just as important. To really tackle the issues of clutter, we should reduce how much we use or bring into our homes and reuse whatever we can. Then recycle what is left over.

Here are some ideas for reducing:

  • Use glass containers or sandwich/snack bags such as LunchSkins.
  • Use silicone baking mats.
  • You can use parchment paper over again when baking several batches of cookies until it gets dirty, brittle or dark.
  • Utilize reusable grocery bags.
  • Avoid individually wrapped items, snack packs, and single-serve containers. Buy large containers of items or from bulk bins whenever practical.

Clutter Busting: Spring and Lent

April 1, 2017 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

I wanted to share a post I wrote several years ago that still applies about Spring being a time of year when we think renewal or refreshing.

During this time of year, we also experience Lent. On Facebook,  I offered the suggestion of decluttering and donating an item daily for 40 day of Lent or for the month of March. If you didn’t see the post on Facebook, consider decluttering one item daily for the month of April. Decide to donate, toss or consign the item. You can get the items out at the end of the month or periodically like I have.

One of the things I did this past week while decluttering, was create several baskets with the unneeded items to donate for an event. I must say they came out well and the feelings of using items that were stored for a good cause is amazing.

I also donated several items to a favorite local charity that has a clothes closet.

So,  make April a(nother) month of decluttering. And let me know about your experience.

Did You Experience a Best Day Ever?

October 22, 2016 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Morning routines and certain activities can start your day on the right foot. I personally find that if I stick to a morning ritual and also do some things that lend themselves to my self-care first thing, I start my day in a more positive frame.

Recommitting my self to practice some of the tips I shared last week was helpful. Positive energy attracts more positive energy. I felt it made a difference in my week even if I just practiced one of the suggestions. Did it make a difference in yours?
