Spring Cleaning – Diet Edition

An important component of being a Registered Dietitian for me is supporting those coming into and new to the professional. It has been an honor of mine to precept dietetic and health Interns. This month, I have had the pleasure of having that opportunity, so this post is being provided in collaboration with nutrition expert and soon-to-be Registered Dietitian, Dayna Krukowski.

The warm weather is here (at least for a few days in Michigan)! How is your spring cleaning coming along?

Let’s start in the kitchen… Have you checked the expira1on dates on the condiments in your refrigerator lately? What about the canned goods in the cupboards? Or the packaged meals in the freezer?

Dispose of food that is no longer good to help clear clutter from your space. Once the clutter is cleared, brighten up your kitchen and your diet by incorpora1ng a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables. Spring cleaning isn’t just for your home; your health is important too!

Clearing Clutter – 40 Day Purge Challenge Update

Clear space to make room for new opportunities.

Every time I do a purge, I find this to be true.  This year I found the same to be true. Yet purging can be tough for many. My advice is to think about clearing space in terms of not getting rid of clutter, but to look at it as keeping what supports the life you want.

What doors can open for you if you clear space?

p.s. I was able to move about 100+ items out of my home through donation, recycling, regifting, consigning or upcycling during my 2023 40 Day Challenge with a few more days to go until it is over.

Clearing Clutter – The Exercise Habit

I confess that I do not love exercise. It has been my challenge and archenemy for my whole adult life. Up until now.

As part of my journey to a healthy and fit life that I have been on for the last year plus, I have finally permanently changed my mind set about fitness. I have made a commitment to move my body and focus on fitness at least five days a week.

I have said it before, but I will reiterate:

Clearing Clutter – Body Weight

Is body clutter weighing you down? It had been weighing me down for many years. I tired and tried again and again to lose weight. Some of these attempts to a healthy weight had been successful, but only in the short-term.

Over the last 14 months, I have been more successful at achieving a healthy body weight by shifting my thoughts about weight and the work that needs to go into maintaining a healthy weight.

Even as a registered dietitian, I have made bad food choices, ate large portions, stress ate and not exercised.

In January 2022, I changed the way I looked at weight loss and flipped it to weight management. I also committed to a healthy weight by committing every day to food and exercise choices that support a healthy weight. I committed to weight management as a journey that I was going to be on for the rest of my life and not just a destination.

How many times have you lost weight and then regained it and maybe more?

Clearing Clutter – 40 Day Challenge

A terrific way to get started on clearing clutter from your space is to do a 40 Day Challenge to purge clutter.

I usually do my challenge in conjunction with Lent, but you can do it for any period of time to purge yourself of things you no longer love, need or want.

Join me in a challenge to get rid of the stuff that is weighing you down. I am not sure what my purge will exactly look like this year because I have done this practice for the past several years. And each year has been different, yet my intent is to get rid of stuff during this period that, for me, will start February 22 and end April 7. I will focus each day on letting go or releasing things which goes right along with my word for 2023.
