Clutter Busting Challenge: Remove 10 clothing items from your closet today

July 25, 2015 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

I challenge you. Take five minutes to go through your closet today and select 10 things that you no longer wear and put them in a box. By doing this today, your remaining clothes will fit better in your closet, you will create space, and you will have a clearer view of your wardrobe options. And if you write “donate” on the box when you are done, you’ll feel better about yourself as soon as you put the box in your car so you can drop it off tomorrow. More than likely, you’ll find yourself inspired to do it again soon. When will you do it next?

I did it one Saturday morning in June and I plan to do it again today.

Clutter Busting: Using Clear Shoe Organizers or Over-the-Door Storage

July 18, 2015 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Using clear shoe organizers in unique ways can help conquer chaos and organize your stuff and add additional storage space especially in small areas. Here are some storage ideas for shoe organizers.

  • Use in the entryway for hats, gloves and scarves.
  • Use in the garage for nails, screwdrivers and smaller workshop items.
  • Use in the bathroom for bath and beauty items or for wash cloths and other bath items or hair accessories or makeup or create a nail care center.
  • Use in the kitchen for spices or small bags or packaged mixes or lunch making supplies (plastic utensils, sandwich bags, straws, etc.) or small kitchen gadgets.
  • Use in the linen closet for washcloths and pillow cases.
  • Use in the office or craft room to house art supplies, or sewing supplies or small office supplies or create a wrapping center.
  • Use in your children’s bedroom to corral small toys or stuffed animals or pieces to board games.
  • Use in the family or media room to store cords games or controllers.
  • Use to help your child learning to dress themselves by storing socks, underwear or other small clothing items so they can self-select items in the morning.
  • Use in the closet to organize jewelry, or scarfs or socks.
  • Use in the baby’s room to store diapers, ointments, lotions, rattles and other items.
  • Use in the mudroom to store sun lotion, keys, umbrellas, or outgoing mail.
  • In the garage to organize gardening tools, gloves and supplies.

And, of course, use to organize your shoes too.

Clutter Busting: Jewelry Solutions

July 11, 2015 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Jewelry can easily become a jumbled mess. Do you know what you have or do you use the same pieces because you don’t want to sort through the mess?

Take a little time to tame your jewelry and expand your wardrobe.

Use the same principle of sort and purge to get a handle on what you have by pulling out every piece of jewelry you have a laying it out in one area. Categorize each items and place in each container labeled:  to sell, to donate, to toss, to repair/clean (only if you do it in two weeks) or to keep.

Figure out what to do with what you decided to keep by thinking about how you use jewelry. Do you take it off when you get in the door and need a common place to put it in the kitchen so you can carry it upstairs to the bed room later? Will you take the time to put things back in boxes or drawers or would it be easier to create a visually pleasing solution out in the open? Remember you don’t have to be confined to a jewelry box.

Here are some alternative storage ideas of corralling your jewelry: [Read more…] about Clutter Busting: Jewelry Solutions

Clutter Busting: Jobs for the Organized Person

June 27, 2015 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Do you like to keep things organized and create order?

If you would like to use your organizing skills for a career, besides being a professional organizer, here are some other ideas for jobs and what they do:

  1. Merchandiser. Arranging products to increase sales along with straightening, signage, etc. Many merchandisers work for a product line and may visit multiple stores.
  2. Event Planner. Organizing events including schedules, details, costs, guest lists, accommodations, etc.
  3. Travel agent. Planning trips for others including travel arrangements, accommodations and itineraries.
  4. Real estate agent. Besides organizing your day, you need to organize open houses, locations, listing details and deadlines.
  5. Project Manager. Overseeing all parts of a project from inception to execution on time, on budget and within scope.

Thankfully there are different ways and things to organize and doing what you love doesn’t make it work at all.
