The Journey Into Clutter Busting: The Basement Update- One Year Later

March 31, 2012 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

So how do you measure success? When is done done?

I started my journey a year ago…getting rid of the clutter from my basement (yes, even the clutter coach has to get rid of clutter every once in a while). It was a personal journey that I thought I would share with my readers and clients. A lot has gotten done:

o My disaster box is updated.
o I have tossed old papers and files no longer needed.
o I have a pile of boxes ready for the garage sale in June.
o I have all my seasonal decorations in one location now and everything is put away and in place. [Read more…] about The Journey Into Clutter Busting: The Basement Update- One Year Later

The Journey Into Clutter Busting: Family Meal Time

March 10, 2012 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

A family meal provides more than just good nutrition. It can provide real quality time for the entire household.

When it comes to our children’s nutrition, we usually think more about what our kids are eating than how they’re eating it. In other words, dining together as a family has become a bit of a lost art. When you eat together you enjoy the family, find out what everyone’s done that day and children also learn table manners and pick up our values as well as have the opportunity to learn about good nutrition habits.

Since March is National Nutrition Month® pause from your personal clutter busting journey to focus on the family meal time.

For healthy eating tips to help make family meal time easier visit:

There are other tools available to use in conjunction with family meals times such as interactive games, quizzes and videos that are available on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics National Nutrition Month website.

So I encourage to pick one dinner each week to enjoy family time together and “Get Your Plate in Shape.”

The Journey Into Clutter Busting: National Nutrition Month ®

March 3, 2012 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

As a Registered Dietitian (RD), every March I return to my roots by committing tothe promotion of National Nutrition Month®.

Each March, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encourages Americans to return to the basics of healthy eating. This year’s National Nutrition Month theme, “Get Your Plate in Shape”, encourages consumers to ensure they are eating the recommended amounts of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods and dairy each day.

As part of this public education campaign, the Academy’s National Nutrition Month website  includes helpful tips, fun games, promotional tools and nutrition education resources, all designed to spread the message of good nutrition around the “Get Your Plate in Shape” theme. I encourage you to check it out!

Happy National Nutrition Month®!

The Journey Into Clutter Busting: Remember…Balance

February 25, 2012 by clutterbusting 1 Comment

It always amazes me how things can get out of balance. When we focus our energy on one project…like my basement journey…you look up and realize that something else has become out of balance. Actually, it is what life is all about…finding balance.

The other day I looked up from my basement project and realized that my kitchen sink counter was out of control. My intention is to go to bed each night with a shiny and clean sink. I thought I had got that clutter zone (one of my hot spots) under control with my daily routine long ago. All of a sudden it wasn’t happening.

The morale of the story is routines. Projects are fine for clearing clutter but you also have to maintain as you go along. So I re-focused for balance and tackled the counter top and now I on the way to the basement to do some project time.

The Journey Into Clutter Busting: Just Gotta Dance

February 18, 2012 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

So in my post last week I said I was going to dance that day and I did.

I realized that it had been a long time since I had danced around the house. I have mentioned before that I have had some challenges with regularly exercising but dancing on Saturday was joyful and reminder how nice it feels to just move your body. I will definitely incorporate dancing around the house more often as part of my fitness and joy routines.

Did you know that an average 150 pound person can burnapproximately 171 calories by dancing (really kicking up your heels for 30 minutes?

So as part of the saying goes “Dance like no one is watching…” ~ William Purkey

Move your body and experience some joy.
