How to STOP Emotional Eating

June 17, 2017 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Feelings are feelings. They are not wrong or right. In our weight management journey, we must learn ways other than eating to manage them. If you are are an emotional eater, try these techniques:

  • Acknowledge and name the emotion. Then take time to journal what you were feeling when you chose to eat when you weren’t hungry.
  • Create an action plan to feed your feelings without food. Make a list of three or four things to do such as have a cup of tea, go for a 10 minute walk or work on a hobby.
  • Stop and breathe. And wait 10 minutes. Have a glass of water. Give yourself time to think if you are physically hungry or not. Picture yourself managing the situation.
  • Seek and build relationships so you have support. Reach out to your support system to obtain perspective.
  • Make yourself a priority and build up your healthy habit muscle. Be proactive by meditating, journaling or relaxing.

Make sure you have what you need in your toolkit ahead of time to ensure you do not eat your feelings but manage them. Here’s to your health!

  • Be gentle with yourself as you would with a friend.
  • Remember how far you have come.
  • Phone a friend. Talk with someone that lifts you up and motivates you.
  • List your accomplishments. Look back on how far you have come and the changes you have made.
  • Focus on your inspiration such as affirtmations, prayers or quotes.
  • Revisit your vision for your body and healthy life.

Clutter Busting: Your Beliefs About a Healthy Weight

March 8, 2014 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Since this is National Nutrition Month® I wanted to share a post about healthy weight and our beliefs from a while back. What is true for you and your healthy weight?

Think about your beliefs about being at a healthy weight. Are they still true for you? Do you struggle with achieving a healthy weight? What are your mental messages about your weight and eating healthy?

It does take an attitude adjustment and a daily commitment to eat healthy…to nourish your body to support the life of your dreams. If you continue to believe that achieving weight loss is hard work, it will be that way for you.  But if you choose to become your own priority and choose to eat healthier, lose weight, if needed, and be physically active you will be able to be a healthier you.

Become your own priority. If you interested in learning how life  coaching can assist you in reaching your goals, contact me to learn more.

A Recipe From My Home to Yours

December 16, 2008 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

The holidays are time of year for gathering family and friends to celebrate. But it is no celebration if you are stuck in the kitchen and everyone else is in another room socializing. I would like to share an easy and elegant recipe that can be used for holiday entertaining and that can keep you out of the kitchen and in the room with the rest of the party. Enjoy!

Slow Cooker Beef Burgundy

3 pound boneless chuck arm pot roast

1 can (10-3/4 oz.) condensed beef mushroom soup

1 can (10-3/4 oz.) condensed creamy onion soup

1 cup sliced fresh mushroom

1 cup chopped onion

1/4 cup burgundy or other red wine

Trim excess fat from meat. Cut meat into 1-inch pieces. Place in slow cooker with mushrooms and onions. Mix soups with wine. Pour over meat. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 9 hours or until tender. Serves 6 -8. Serving Suggestion: noodles and dilled baby carrots.

Note: I use reduced fat ingredients whenever possible. You can also save time by using pre-cut stewing meat and pre-sliced mushrooms.
