Declutter Challenge 2021 Check In

February 27, 2021 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Did you join me on the 40 items in 40 Days Challenge to declutter your life in 2021?

If you did, how is it going? What have you learned?

I have learned that even though this is the third year that I have done this challenge, and even though I declutter items by upcycling, recycling, donating or tossing, I still have items in my home that I do not love or use. Also, because my focus is on donating items, it is easier to let things go because I know that they are moving on to someone who may be in need. Finally, letting go of items gives me a sense of freedom and opens space for possibilities. Some interesting things are starting to happen for me.

If you did not join us on February 17, although it is 10 days in, you can still join ins and you will have done a 30-day Challenge.

Give it Some Space

February 22, 2020 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Are you uncomfortable with unused space? Why do we see an empty space and think it is unused? What is we considered space as freedom or opportunity?

Having more stuff and having stuff on every surface and in every space or area can manifest itself as clutter and overwhelmed or distract you. And the more stuff you have the harder it is to maintain an area; it isn’t relaxing to see and can create chaos.

On the flip side, a space left empty can give us peace of mind. It provides less distraction. It provides freedom and allows space for other things to come into your life.

What surface can you clear off today?

Memories versus Memorabilia

February 8, 2020 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

One of the reasons people have clutter is that their stuff is associated with memories. Your stuff is not your memory.

The past exists in your memories even if you discard and item related to an event, person or experience. When you discard an item, you are not throwing away your past, but making space for yourself and the possibilities.

If you forget a memory, maybe that is an okay thing for your to forget. Important memories will always remain. It’s the memories that we can recall without the aid of items that are important. Getting rid of our extra stuff or clutter, will enable us to start to remember the important things without being distracted by excessive stuff.
