Declutter Challenge 2022

February 26, 2022 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

As is my custom, I use the time of Lent in my personal life to declutter things from my life as well as “give up” other habits.

If you would like to join me in a decluttering challenge you can either pick the 31 days of March or 40 days of Lent (starting March 2) and decide your goal for decluttering depending on how much clutter you need to rid yourself of. It could be ten things a day, one garbage bag a day, etc.

My goal is one item per day since this is something I do annually for the 40 days of Lent.

Are you joining me? What is your goal?

The Opportunity of Regifting

December 11, 2021 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

When I bring up the subject of regifting, how does that make you feel? Uncomfortable? Unacceptable?

In my work in clutter busting, I see regifting as an opportunity to move items that you will never use out of your home…your life.

Of course there are some guidelines that should be used when regifting. You want to ensure that you don’t regift to the original giver, you want to re-wrap the gift and make sure that it is appropriate for the person.

This year, think of regifting as part of your strategy to move some items that could benefit someone else out of your home. You may be surprised at how freeing the can be and the potential to give a gift of joy.

The Routine – Declutter one area at a time

September 25, 2021 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

I mentioned earlier this month that I like routines and I find that they ground me and help me make progress as well as keep things in order.

As part of this month’s maintenance routine, I am setting up my entry way for cooler weather which normally brings more stuff to that space.

How does your entry way look? Is it cluttered or inviting? How would you like it to look?

Take a minute now to envision your entry and then create a plan and make it happen.

Curating Your Possessions

September 18, 2021 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

My current possessions are curated to support my vision is one of my mission statements. As part of my mission focus for this month I am focusing on routines and that includes my environment and a harmonious life.

The idea of curating your possessions is so much more positive than the thought of letting go or getting rid of. It is a way of shifting our thinking into the possible.

What if you curated your possessions? What would your life look like?

I Live Harmoniously

September 11, 2021 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

I live harmoniously is one of my mission statements. What I have defined that to be for me is that:

  • Our home is clutter free and out items are organized.
  • We regularly purge excess and have a plan to maintain our home.
  • My current possessions are curated to support my vision.

As I looked at my routines recently, I made sure to calendarize those tasks during September in ensure planned time to purge excess as well as time for some maintenance tasks.

So, this weekend we are spending time going through hazardous chemicals and other items that can be taken to an upcoming hazardous waste day.

Adding one or two maintenance tasks each month can help reduce the overwhelmed feeling and make the tasks doable. What decluttering project is on your list so you can conquer chaos and create harmony?
