An important component of being a Registered Dietitian for me is supporting those coming into and new to the professional. It has been an honor of mine to precept dietetic and health Interns. This month, I have had the pleasure of having that opportunity, so this post is being provided in collaboration with nutrition expert and soon-to-be Registered Dietitian, Dayna Krukowski.
Self-care through nutrition is about fueling your body with nutrient-dense foods and feeling empowered with your food choices. Focus on adding a variety of fruits, vegetables and whole grains to your diet by finding fun ways to enjoy them!
- Pick a new recipe to try out.
- Meet a friend for a meal at a restaurant you’ve been wanting to visit.
- Eat intentionally by taking time to thoroughly chew and taste your food.
- Minimize distractions while eating – turn off the television, put your phone away, etc.
- Listen to your body by paying attention to your hunger and fullness cues.
Pick something from the list above or come up with your own way of taking care of yourself through nutrition. Be present when you eat to help clear the clutter from your mind, body and space.
