Financially Fit Paper Records

May 15, 2010 by clutterbusting 1 Comment

With tax season now over, if you haven’t already done so, it is time to get your tax records in order.
Yahoo has a great article on what paper records to keep or toss.

Here are some other tips for handling paper clutter:

  • Set up a system now for collecting 2010 receipts and tax documents so they will be in one place at tax preparation time.
  • Buy a shredder now if you don’t currently own one or upgrade to a cross-cut model.
  • With a few important exceptions you don’t have to keep ALL your papers just tax-related documents.

You can conquer the paper pile and tame clutter if you do it today!

Organize Your Garage

May 8, 2010 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Most of us enter our homes from the garage. In fact, we probably pass through our garage more than we do our living rooms.

Now that you have had a garage sale, take the extra step and organize your garage to be clutter-free. Here are some tips (assuming that you already had some of the stuff in your garage sale): [Read more…] about Organize Your Garage

Clutter Busting: Getting Ready for a Garage Sale

May 1, 2010 by clutterbusting 1 Comment

Locally spring time comes and so do the garage sales in my area…my subdivision included.

Since you are already committed to spring clean this year and get rid of the clutter in your life, why not consider participating in your neighborhood garage sale or set one up yourself.

Here are some ideas for the logistics:

  • Find out if your neighbors want to do a multi-family sale to share cost. Also, multi-family sales attract more people.
  • Go on line or call your local municipality to find out if there are any ordinances related to garage sales.
  • Find out costs to advertise in the local paper and determine which papers will get you the most customers…ask around.
  • Get signage and balloons for the day of your sale. Put out a sign a week ahead of the event to alert passersby.

The Container Store has some great tips on getting ready for a garage sale. I especially like their ideas on planning ahead and staying focused and organized.

I would love to hear from you if you also have ideas.

Can You Really Speed Spring Clean?

April 24, 2010 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

In the March 2010 issue of Woman’s Day magazine author, Arianne Cohen, poses the question “who does a big annual cleaning anyway? and why?” in the Solutions Tip Talk section. In the article she shared her speed spring cleaning experience from last year. She decided to devote just three mornings to quickly moving from room to room, closets and cabinets, sorting belongings and getting rid of stuff.

She indicated that this was a time also including taking stock of her life as she went through papers and items.

If you can’t stand the thought of a spring cleaning extravaganza give yourself a few days or a few mornings or even a few hours to see what you can accomplish. Just like this author as a result you may feel good about yourself every time you open an organized drawer or look at a cabinet with less stuff in it over the next year.

Are you ready to feel good about yourself through spring cleaning?

Spring Cleaning and Clearing Clutter

April 17, 2010 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Spring is a great time of year. It is a time of year that we think about renewal, birth and freshness. Or at least I think of these thing. Many of us may think about spring as a time to do a deep cleaning like when were children. My mom cleaned the house from top to bottom in the spring. Nothing in our home was left untouched. It was the time to clear surfaces, clean underneath things, remove the old and bring in the new. There was always a sense of calm and frehness after the house was spring cleaned.
