The Weight of Our Stuff

August 13, 2022 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

We hold on to material objects because we think they make us feel secure when they really are cluttering our lives.

It also seems easier to acquire possessions than getting rid of them. Just as we hold on to emotional baggage that is difficult to let go of, our lives can tend to be filled with material objects that we may feel compelled to hold on to and that end up weighing us down. This includes the excess in our mind, body, and space.

Many individuals are not conscious of how much they own and how many of things are no longer adding value to their life. They hold on to material things because it makes them feel secure or comfortable. While it is true that the ownership of stuff can make you feel good, it can weigh you down, keep you in the past, overwhelm you or cause chaos. [Read more…] about The Weight of Our Stuff

Setting Boundaries

April 30, 2022 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Is decluttering a priority? Is self-care a priority? Are you getting the important done vs the urgent?

If you are not getting done what is important to you, consider if you have set boundaries and if you are saying “no” enough.

Many of us have a demanding time turning requests (people) down. And this impacts our ability to get our own priorities completed.

Here are suggestions for ways to form healthy (and guilt-fee) boundaries [Read more…] about Setting Boundaries

National Nutrition Month ®

March 5, 2022 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During the month of March, everyone is invited to learn about making informed food choices and developing healthful eating and physical activity habits.

This year’s theme, Celebrate a World of Flavors, embraces global cultures, cuisines, and inclusivity, plus showcases the expertise of registered dietitian nutritionists.

With that in mind, plan a meal or several where you try a different seasoning or a new recipe to experience different flavors.

I look forward to hearing about your experience.

Go Slow to Go Fast

February 12, 2022 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Those words “go slow to go fast” came to me as I was reflecting on January and my word “be.” Just as with anything, I am not suddenly going to be excellent at being. It will take work to get there and time.

A colleague of mine would say “we may have to go slow to go fast” all the time when we were working on projects together reminding us that there is not always a straight line to follow, that barriers arise, and that determination and teamwork will get us to the finish line.

I am also reminded that life is a journey not a race or a sprint. It is about our accomplishments along the way. And that we should never stop once we reach a goal because that is when we back slide.

So, I am readjusting my expectations that this “being” is a process that won’t happen tomorrow and that I will need to “work” on it.

Overall, January and being went fine. Slower progress than expected. Yet as I look back, I am not sure what I really expected. I created to dos related to my health and organization which are two of my mission statements.  I will continue to work on blending/balancing doing and being. I am excited to see where February continues to lead me.
