Thoughts on Decluttering Your Eating Habits

June 26, 2021 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

As I focused this month on being fit and healthy, much of that revolved around making healthy food choices.

Do you know what influences what and how much you eat? Do you know your triggers? Being mindful and planning can help you change your food choices.

Especially with the upcoming holiday and potential for celebrations at home or in gatherings, plan ahead to equip yourself to make good food choices for you that support your health goals.

Here are some ways you can also declutter your eating habits:

  • Plan your menu each week.
  • Have a grocery list.
  • Keep ingredients for one or two go-to dishes in your pantry.
  • Have two or three go-to breakfast and/or lunches.
  • Cook once, eat twice.

Using some of these tips has helped my stay true to my commitment this month. What works for you?

Decluttering Your Fitness Routine

June 19, 2021 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

In my journey this month to focus on health and fitness, I was looking for opportunities to ensure that the routines I established now will stick in the future.

Just like many people, I do well for a period of time after committing to health habits such as exercise, but then life gets in my way and one of the first things to go is my exercise routine.

Here are some techniques that I am using to make exercise a habit that pulls on me:

  • Schedule it.
  • Set a reminder.
  • Lay out your gear.
  • Pick a pleasurable activity.
  • Head outdoors.
  • Start small.
  • Have a backup plan (rainy day then dancing it is).
  • Set up a reward system (new shoes are in my future).

So far so good. I can say that in using a combination of these techniques this month I am feeling optimistic that I can continue with my exercise routine well into the future.

What about you?

A Case for regular physical activity

March 27, 2021 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Earlier this month I posted about healthy eating as part of NNM®

I would like to make the case now for regular physical activity. Regular exercise benefits us by:

  1. Improving mood
  2. Promoting better sleep
  3. Boosting energy levels
  4. Combating or self-management of health conditions
  5. Strengthening your muscles and bones
  6. Enhancing brain health and memory
  7. Being a social activity
  8. Getting us out into nature
  9. Reducing pain
  10. Supporting weight loss/maintenance

Overall, exercise or physical activity are great ways to feel better, boost your health and have fun. For most healthy adults, the Department of Health and Human Services recommends: [Read more…] about A Case for regular physical activity

The first day of Spring 2021.

Spring to me means renewal…. growth…. freshness…. clarity…. hope.

National Nutrition Month® 2021- Personalize Your Plate

March 13, 2021 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During the month of March, everyone is invited to learn about making informed food choices and developing healthful eating and physical activity habits.

This year’s campaign theme is Personalize Your Plate with the following focus:

Week 1: Eat a variety of nutritious foods every day!

Week 2: Plan your meals each week!

Week 3: Learn skills to create tasty meals!

Week 4: Consult a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)!

As a Registered Dietitian (RD) or RDN, I hope you use NNM® as a starting point or a reminder for making healthy and informed food choices. It is a great time to restart your commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

Join me in learning a new habit to support your healthy life. Learn more about  National Nutrition Month.
