Tackle Your To-do List

November 5, 2022 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Is there a better way to tackle your to-do list? Is there a secret for reducing the sense of overwhelm that list causes?

The answer is yes. One way to reduce the stress and anxiety is to simply locate the next item of your list and give it a due date and then schedule progress check-ins with yourself. You can also set up an incentive for achieving your task on time such as fresh flowers or a new read.

Having a goal and regular feed can increase both your attention and motivation. A study by University of Texas at Arlington concluded that mini-goals and check-ins will help you stay on track.

So, tackle that next item that you have been stuck on with a clear goal, timeline and schedule.

Are You Too Busy?

February 16, 2019 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Goals.
Choices.
Time.
Priorities.

Where are you with your 2019 goals (resolutions)? Are you accomplishing what you set out to do this year or are you too busy for your priorities?

Although it is true that you do not have time to do everything, you do have time to do what is truly important to you. We all have the same 24-hours each day. So why do some people achieve their goals while others don’t? The difference is knowing how to use your time in order to focus on your priorities.

If you spend time on non-priority activities, then obviously you have less time available for your priorities. Saying “no” to some activities is as important as is saying “yes,” and perhaps even more so. When you say yes to something now, you are saying no to something else. So, when you are evaluating the progress you are making on your goals ask yourself:

• Did I have the time, but chose to spend it on something else?
• Is this still a high priority for me?
• What is distracting me?
• What choices have I made that were counterproductive to achieving my goal?

And in order to create space for your priorities consider the following in your daily planning:
• Delegating
• Eliminating
• Calendarizing

Remember it is the choices and decisions you make daily that will determine if you achieve your goals.

Connecting Check In #8

September 1, 2018 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

My intention for 2018 to connect has continued to be meaningful for me.

Where have eight months gone? It sure moves quickly or, so it seems. Which again gives me a light bulb moment for this post.

Connection happens in the moment. Sometimes we are so busy and moving from one thing to another that it almost feels like we don’t even take a breath. If only we had the time…

We all have 24-hours each day. What can you do to make the most of your time, so you can connect with others?

Clutter Busting: Time Management

December 2, 2017 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

With so many activities and responsibilities surrounding the holidays, time can get away from us especially if you are already a person who is frequently late for appointment, meetings or gatherings.

Here are some tips for getting places on time:

  • Review your checklist and calendar each morning and mid-day so you don’t have to trust your memory and so you keep your appointments as well as your tasks a priority.
  • Set an alarm for 30 minutes prior to when you need to leave.
  • While it is nice to cross something off your list, skip that last task prior to leaving. It will be there when you come back to it. Just write it down so you can mentally move on prioritize getting to your event on time.
  • Pad your estimated time for tasks. Most people under plan the time needed to accomplish tasks and, therefore, run behind or plan too many in one day.
  • Plan ahead. You never know when you might get stuck in traffic so pad your time estimates for travel even if GPS says travel time is 30 minutes.

While you can’t change time, you can change the decisions you make and that can help you be on time more frequently than not.

Try it this holiday season so you can be on time for all the festivities.

If not you who?

February 25, 2017 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

When you are given instructions on the airplane, they tell you to put the oxygen mask on yourself first. Right?

Then why is it so hard for us to put ourselves first on our to do list, to make our goals a priority and to spend time just being who we are?

Americans are not particularly good at safeguarding their overall health:

  • Mental Health- One in four Americans has a mental health disorder. Many of these disorders go untreated. [Read more…] about If not you who?
