2022 Word Review – BE

January 21, 2023 by DeclutterDivva Leave a Comment

In my previous post, I shared that my word for 2023 is release. My word for 2022 was be.

So how did I do with being in 2022? Fair to good. I haven’t yet been 100% successful with my word. I never am. The goal is to set the intention and work toward it. To be aware and focus on that.

Even though some things changed for me, having a to do list and a schedule did not although there was more flexibility. I did practice more self-care. And I still want/need more time for reflection and quiet.

Overall, I feel that I was successful, not for the achievement of being more, but of being more aware and for that I am grateful.

Be the Word

January 8, 2022 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

A New Year, a new word. This year’s focus word is “be.”

Every year instead of selecting a New Year’s resolution, I select a focus word for the year.

For me, aligning to a word provides direction all year long versus focusing on a goal that you meet (or not) and then move beyond.

I usually start with the definition of the word, but I found that difficult this year. So, instead I am sharing a quote from mindful.org that “defines” what “be” or “being” means to me:

‘In being mode, the mind has “nothing to do, nowhere to go” and can focus fully on moment-by-moment experience, allowing us to be fully present and aware of whatever is here, right now.’

My goal for this year, this new chapter in my life, is to be present in the moment. I selected this focus word because I have been “doing” all my adult life. Lists, obligations, deadlines, and people pleasing have kept me doing. Doing to the point where my well has run dry. This year, I am looking at self-care and with that “allowing” myself to be in the moment versus in the space of what has happened or what will happen.

So this year I intend to start being instead of doing by:

  • Deciding what is most important to me.
  • Choosing to be happy in each moment.
  • Honoring my strengths.
  • Residing in the present moment with an open heart.
  • Taking inspired action.

Consider joining me in selecting a word for 2022. What will it be? Or will you join me in “being?”

Mission Driven

January 23, 2021 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

When you are driven by your mission decision making and action planning can become clearer.

As I have updated my mission statement over the last several weeks, I have recommitted to focusing on those things that are important to me. And I plan to take a page out of Benjamin Franklin’s book as I go through 2021 with integrity in mind. I will work on being mission focused each month with a particular attention to one concept.

I am excited to share my mission with you. [Read more…] about Mission Driven

Mission Statement Tips

January 16, 2021 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Last week I shared that I was planning to review my mission statement and suggested that you join me in that journey.

What did you learn?

I learned:

  • I play many roles and that I have found it challenging to blend them for balance and/or focus.
  • I continue to like using several concept statements versus a paragraph for my statement.
  • I have not looked at my mission statement since last January and, therefore, I need to add a task to do that at least monthly if not weekly when I do my planning.
  • I would have been able to make quicker/calmer decisions over the last several months if I would have reviewed my mission statement first.
  • That many of the statements need to be adjusted slightly based on the current environment/circumstance.

So, the plan is to spend some more time with updating my mission statement.

Here are some tips that can help if you too will be updating your mission statement. [Read more…] about Mission Statement Tips

Start, Stop or Continue?

February 9, 2019 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

I have used the technique of start, stop or continue in business. I have asked this question of others when seeking input on my contributions to the team (what I should…). I have also used it as a self-evaluation tool for myself and my colleagues as part of our performance appraisal process.

I have also used it when I feel that I am not accomplishing goals or tasks on my to do list. This is also a good way to address habits, relationships or choices and whether they are contributing positive things to your life.

What do you need to start, stop or continue in your life now?
