The Shift Continues

February 20, 2016 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

As I work through my word of the year which is shift, some amazing things are happening.

I am working out more regularly again, I am seeing the scale start to move down again and I see my body changing. But more importantly how I think is also changing.

I had an ah ha! moment…in planning my day two weeks ago I actually had the thought “I get to work out today.” Before the shift that would never have occurred to me. This change in mind set is welcomed and is energizing. I am actually looking forward to working out. WOW! And there are several reasons on how the shift has happened:

More on Sticking to Your Goals

February 13, 2016 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Here are some additional tips you can use to stick to your goals (resolutions).

  • When you are working on a new healthy habit create prompts for goal implementation. For example if you want take your lunch to work daily, pack it the night before and put out your lunch bag next to your purse or briefcase.
  • While having SMART goals is important to success so is creating goals in the present tense to help you visualize the goal as already done. For example I select water as my beverage of choice versus I will stop drinking pop or I am physically active for 30 minutes four days a week versus I will start exercising.
  • Build some pleasure into the actual activity. For example listen to audio books while walking so you can create a habit that sticks.
  • Determine consequences for not keeping your commitment such as no social media time for a week if you don’t get to the gym three times between Monday and Saturday.

Creating prompts, setting up rewards and establishing goals in the present tense will aid with goal implementation and assist in creating healthy habits that stick. Give one of these tips a try…you will make your goals a reality.

Are You Inspired?

June 30, 2009 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

What inspires you? Do you wait for external things to inspire you or do you inspire yourself?

Don’t wait for external motivators…rely on yourself to make changes that last.

Here are some strategies that will inspire you as you travel the road to personal change adapted from an article in Women’s Life Style Magazine (April 2009) by Janice Lynne Lundy.

1. Give yourself a morning infusion.
Rise 15 minutes early to engage in “good” activities to start your day. Meditate or read and focus on things that are positive.
2. Choose the company you keep.
Spend time with those that support your desire for change.
3. Make an honest assessment.
At the end of the day take time for reflection. Make observations of the successes and lessons learned to help move yourself forward.

Begin your daily journey with positives and inspire yourself into greatness.

The Journey Into Coaching

May 9, 2009 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

I had the pleasure and honor of presenting a breakout session at the Michigan Dietetic Association Annual Conference this past week. The presentation was about my journey as a registered dietitian into the coaching profession. While my focus was on sharing information about the coaching process my hope is that I also opened the door to some possibilities for my audience.

There were three messages from the program that I would like to share with you: [Read more…] about The Journey Into Coaching

The Three “Cs”

February 17, 2009 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Did you ever wonder why you were having difficulty implementing a change in your life? Do you wonder why some changes are easier than others?

I would propose that change is easier to implement when the three “Cs” are present:
1. Control
2. Challenge
3. Commitment

Control means that you feel that you have a say in what is happening. You are contributing to your own destiny and you are empowered.

Challenge provides a positive focus of a learning experience over a threatening experience. The feeling is that the glass is half full or not half empty.

Commitment gives you a sense of ownership and motivation. You have a stake in the outcome.
So if you feel unmotivated, are stuck or are struggling with change ask yourself if one of the “Cs” is missing. Identify it, reframe it, set an action plan in place and do it. Your success is just around the corner.
