Doing Your Best

February 8, 2014 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Are you having difficulty making decisions? Are you struggling to come up with solutions today? Is problem solving challenging? Do you feel stuck?

The pressure to make decisions or do creative problem solving may make you feel frustrated and stressed. This could be because you set high expectations for yourself to come up with ideas that are perfect. Instead you may want to think about setting realistic expectations for yourself and acknowledge that sometimes you need to step away or take a break to get a fresh perspective. Less Is More

February 1, 2014 by clutterbusting 2 Comments

The hectic pace of daily life can make you feel frazzled and overwhelmed. If you take a look at your agenda you may see that are overextending yourself at work or at home. To ease the stress that your level of busyness is likely causing, you may need to cut your workload down. If you feel you are being irresponsible while you cross non-essential items off of your to-do list, consider that your exhaustion may lead to a total cessation of effort if you do not indulge in periodic downtime. You may even find that you can accomplish more in a shorter amount of time when you take frequent breaks because you feel energized and enthusiastic about your responsibilities. If you can’t do everything, do something

January 25, 2014 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

“If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it. The more things you do, the more you can do.” ~Lucille Ball

Instead of worrying or striving for perfection, take action. Just do it. Action can counter anxiety.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, just do one little thing and another little thing and don’t worry about the rest. When you add the little things together you get a neat house, a finished project or a completed goal.

People who are perfectionists do one little thing and then berate themselves because it is not enough. Be happy and celebrate that one little accomplishment. This can make all the difference in being successful. Maybe that’s why busy people get more done…they just do the next thing.

How do you let go of perfectionism? You just decide to do it. You realize that unreasonable expectations can hold you back and you make the choice to let them go.  When the expectations come back, without judgment or frustration, you let go again.

What little thing can you do today?

Taking Action

January 18, 2014 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

January is a month full of enthusiasm and the desire to make changes. I would like to suggest that you look at life a little differently…that you consider not making changes, but instead taking daily action.

Taking action to implement your plans and goals sets powerful energy into motion that will create results. Many times changes don’t stick because once you get to a goal you don’t know what to do next. Instead I propose that you pick daily actions to live the life you want.

By taking daily actions, you build your confidence up to the degree that you feel motivated and enthusiastic about your plans. Taking action will push your worries into the background even though you may still have doubts and fears. As you move forward toward your goals, you cause a chain reaction of positive energy that will open you up to greater opportunities and/or strengthen your confidence so that you can set your sights on bigger goals. You are then able to attain greater results because you were willing to take bigger risks. Allowing your confidence and enthusiasm to energize your actions will help you create the results you desire.

So what do you desire? And what action can you take today?

A Balanced Life

January 11, 2014 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

What’s in a word? A lot. For those that may follow my posts you know that I have given up making resolutions and have instead chosen a word or theme for the year.

This year’s word is balance. So, of course, I had to look up the definition. According to www.dictionary.com:

bal·ance

noun

1. a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight, amount, etc.

2. something used to produce equilibrium; counterpoise.

3. mental steadiness or emotional stability; habit of calm behavior, judgment, etc.

4. a state of bodily equilibrium: He lost his balance and fell down the stairs.

5. an instrument for determining weight, typically by the equilibrium of a bar with a fulcrum at the center, from each end of which is suspended a scale or pan, one holding an object of known weight, and the other holding the object to be weighed.

For me, balance in 2014 means calmness and steadiness. I am aiming for having various aspects of my life feel more equal. First focus is on play time…leisure and recreational activities. What will that be?
