The Shift Continues

February 20, 2016 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

As I work through my word of the year which is shift, some amazing things are happening.

I am working out more regularly again, I am seeing the scale start to move down again and I see my body changing. But more importantly how I think is also changing.

I had an ah ha! moment…in planning my day two weeks ago I actually had the thought “I get to work out today.” Before the shift that would never have occurred to me. This change in mind set is welcomed and is energizing. I am actually looking forward to working out. WOW! And there are several reasons on how the shift has happened:

Clutter Busting: Making the Shift in Beliefs

January 23, 2016 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Do you believe?

Do you believe in the possibilities?

Do you believe that things can change?

Do you believe in yourself?

In order to shift your practices and make true change you must believe. And this may mean that you may have to ask yourself some tough questions in order to move forward. In addition, you may also need to look at your beliefs or values and determine if they are still true for you.

In my own journey over the years, I have looked at some of my beliefs that were holding me back and once I was able to see that a particular belief (value) was not true for me any more than I was able to create a belief that was my own and that allowed me to shift or change. An example is when I trained for a 5K.

As adults we forget one of the messages we get in a popular children’s book: “ I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.” If only we didn’t lose that message along the way to adult. So take a page out of the 1930 book The Little Engine That Could (Little Golden Book) by Watty Piper and make the shift in your beliefs. You can and you will.

Stress Less This Holiday: Gift Giving

December 12, 2015 by clutterbusting Leave a Comment

Does gift giving stress you out during the holiday season? Do you have some gifts that could be regifted to get rid of some of your clutter and bring joy to someone else? What is regifting?

In the right circumstances, regifting can take the stress out of gift buying by utilizing items you already own and have in your home. Regifting has gained in popularity and the etiquette experts at the Emily Post Institute approve of the practice in some circumstances.

If you are considering regifting this holiday season, follow these guidelines:

  • Be sure that the recipient will appreciate the item.   If you are regifting simply because you ran out of time, gift cards are simple to obtain and always well received.
  • Some gifts that are good candidates for regifting include good (unopened) bottles of wine, new household items and inexpensive jewelry.
  • Only new, unopened gifts in good condition should be considered for regifting.
  • Only regift items to people who are not likely to see the original giver.
  • Gift bags in good condition can be reused, but wrapping paper is a one-time use.  And always use a new card or gift tag.
  • If you don’t plan to announce the gift as a regift you need to be able to keep the secret and you need to be able to not feel guilty about regifting.

If you feel uncomfortable regifting items, now might be a good time to donate them to a charitable organization or donate them as drawing prizes or silent auction items for fundraisers. This will benefit a good cause and reduce your clutter.

So consider regifting this season to help take some of the stress out of gift giving. There is also the National Regifting Day on December 17, 2015.
